Is it coincidence that the 2016 version feels especially bad while Intuit is attempting to sell off its Quicken division? They probably stopped trying long ago, but it’s not looking good for Quicken users.

Quicken 2016 Deluxe is a poor performer on a native Windows machine, so I can only imagine how poorly it might run in a VM for some of the Mac users out there who want to run Quicken for Windows with Parallels or VMware.

I was running it on a Windows 10 Pro 64-bit laptop that runs Lightroom, Microsoft Office, iTunes, and everything else just fine. I restarted the program, then my computer, but nothing changed. As I was going through and adding more of my accounts and setting my preferences, I noticed that the program felt sluggish.

I had to Google how to disable it and remove my data from Intuit’s servers, because Quicken’s help file was decidedly unhelpful. I won’t go into all the details, but right away, I was irritated that the setup process uploaded my data to the cloud, even after I selected not to. I’d contemplated not upgrading this time around, but my copy of 2013 was about to sunset, and the price dropped to a more palatable $30, so I went ahead and spent the few beans on what turned out to be some pretty bad software. With very few quality updates, year after year, I reluctantly upgraded every few years when my copy was due to “sunset.” The changes included in the new versions were hardly noticeable. For a few years, I switched over to MS Money, but I switched back before Microsoft pulled the plug on its Quicken competitor. Like many, I've been a long-time Quicken user.

I run the file repair, and it says damaged qdf records, but it doesn't repair them because if I run validate and repair again, i still get same errors.ĭO NOT upgrade to this version if you currently have 2014 - so sorry I did. Tried to perform year end copy, and I get error that says "file not copied" and it does not prune the older reconciled transactions. update: well, perhaps I take the part about not corrupting my data back. Fortunately, it has not corrupted my data (yet), but it makes me very nervous - (i do back up after every session) Other running programs are not impacted - so I know it is isolated to just quicken. It just becomes unresponsive and the only way to close it is from the task manger. In addition to be slower than 2014 version, it is hangs on occasion - no pattern on where in the program or what function I am using. Just not worth the cost, and for me, the product is noticeable slower. My recommendation for existing 2014 users - unless you have a specific need for one of the new features, I would not recommend upgrading. I haven't used any of the new features (which are not that many). What I mean is, many times it won't automatically mark a downloaded transaction as matched, even though it does match based on the amount, the only reconciled transaction that has the same amount.ģ) for me, the naming rules are still flaky and un-intuitive - again, was hoping maybe there was some improvement in this area

was hoping this would be better, but it has not improved. Takes longer to load my file when initially opened, and online-updates take longer as well.Ģ) one of the issues I've had for a long time, was with quicken's transaction matching 'intelligence' (or lack thereof). Regretting decision, but have made too many entries, etc to go back and redo things so I'll stick with it.ġ) This version is much slower than the 2014 version. 2016 version seemed to be getting better reviews, so I decided to upgrade. I skipped 2015 version because of all the bad reviews.
